I am currently reseaching for a book I plan to write about the Spanish Vias Pecuarias or Canadas. What I would like to do is join up with some shepherds driving flocks from north to south in order to get a feel for what they do. I would propose joining them for 3-4 weeks. The problem is I have no contacts. Can anyone advise how I can get in touch with shepherds? I would be happy to go and see them personally in order to make the necessary arrangements. Perhaps the canada that passes directly through Madrid would be of most interest to readers, but I am very happy to consider any other suggestions.
Please reply in Spanish if that would be easier. Many thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give.

I can't help directly (though I'll buy the book when it's published!) but if you haven't already found them, here are a couple of links to people who may be able to point you in the right direction:

There are a number of local Cañadas and Pecuarias around here (Xátiva, Valencia) but I've never been able to discover anything about them.
Good luck.
