We are leaving our daughter at a Salamanca language school in Mid June and have 10 days in which to try and find some birds, flowers and butterflies and do a little walking. We will have a car as we will be travelling back to the UK via Santander and the ferry. We had wanted to visit the dehesas of Extramadura and Monfrague NP but think it will be much too hot and also too late in the year for flowers and birds. As our point of departure is Santander in the North we also don't want to go too far South. Can anyone suggest an area we should visit for the best possible wildlife experience without excessive temperatures and, given how late in the year this will be, the best chance of finding some flowers and birds? We prefer limestone landscapes and need budget accommodation. Many thanks for any help.

I think Picos de Europa would be a good option in June, specially as it's close to Santander. Not comparable to Extramadura for birding but excellent for flowers, butterflies and walking at that time of year.

Dear Victoria,
What a great opportunity to discover the unknown northern plateau. Mid June temperatures is perfect for making daytrips and enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Soria.
We offer lots of nice walking daytrips in which you can find birds, flowers and butterflies!
Look at our website to find more information.
