DIFFERENT LANDSCAPES OF SORIA.
We are living for almost four years in Almazán, the second city in the province of Soria and we love it! From flat and overcrowded Holland we moved to the Spanish highland with less than 9 people per square km. Because of the lack of people there is a lot of space, quietness and a beautiful variety of nature: the extended plateau, mountainous areas, Mediterranean forests, juniper tree forests, the spectacular red earth, dry river beds and canyons.
In spring you can find wild flowers in abundance. The cornfields change colour from green to (in the summer season) gold and after the harvest into beautiful rich tinges of red. Summer also stands for extensive fields of sunflowers. Autumn; you can not only enjoy the colours of the autumn leaves gleaming in the sun, if wet enough, the mushrooms that you can find (and eat!) give this season even more splendour! Winter isn’t as dark and depressing as it can be in Holland or England. In Soria we have more hours of daylight and sun and there are a lot of evergreen trees. It can be cold though…

------------------------------------When I was at school in Britain, I went to Soria on a course and one unforgettable day we went into the campo and to Medinaceli. Even though I now live in South Africa, which abounds with photo opps, it's been magical to view this lovely portfolio, recall the poetry of Machado - and resolve to revisit Soria. Highly recommended to anyone who doesn't know the area. Patricia McCracken , February 01, 2008 ------------------------------------ |
