Sandrine Dos Santos of Butterfly Adventures and Diana Beach of Hotel Los Castaños, both based in the village of Cartajima in the Alto Genal, spent the winter visiting each of the other six Alto Genal villages to unearth their secrets. There was more than they had originally expected and hence the Alto Genal Valley, a 32-page guidebook, was born. While not wishing to destroy what remains traditional, pristine and bursting with natural beauty, they hope that the guidebook will attract eco-tourists to the Valley and thereby create a sustainable and non-destructive tourist industry that will help the villages survive into the next century. The guide includes accommodation, bars and restaurants, crafts and local produce, sites of interest, traditional village celebrations, and walking and biking routes starting from each of the seven villages.
