. Aragón, last stronghold for lammergeiers -
Aragón is the last chance for Europe's lammergeiers, said Gerardo Báguena,
president of Spain's Lammergeier Conservation Foundation, after signing a
recent conservation treaty with the Aragón department of environment. Only
100 pairs of this very specialised vulture remain in the whole of the
Pyrenees, although a slow comeback has been observed in the last decade. The
plan includes tracking, feeding stations and coordinated census and
education work on either side of the Spanish-French border. Date: April 28,

. Finisterre adventure and mountain paintings -
40 Adventures at the end of The Camino. Audiovisual presentation on various
adventure sports in the area between Santiago de Compostela and Ara Solis,
Finisterre, Galicia. By Rubén Suárez and Andrés Villar. Venue: Librería
Desnivel, Plaza Matute 6, Madrid, 5th May, 7 p.m. Also, at the same venue,
mountain painting exhibition by Mario Domínguez (May and June). Date: April

. Canary Islands environment protected from shipping -
The Canary Islands are now classed as a a Particularly Sensitive Sea Area by
United Nations' International Maritime Organisation. Environmental groups
welcome the measure, approved at the IMO's meeting in London earlier this
month, which ensures stringent environmental control of international
