. New walk in Montejo beech forest -
A new 2 hour walk known as "La Rinconada" has recently been blazed in the
Hayedo de Montejo reserve, Europe's southermost beech forest, in the
province of Madrid. The track starts at Cardoso bridge and follows the river
Jarama passing through the Sierra del Rincón, Horiula, Orcajuelo, Puebla de
la Sierra, Montejo and Prádena del Rincón, with several new rural
accommodation options. Date: October 04, 2004 Source: Desnivel
. Melting glaciers in the Pyrenees -
Only 290 square km of glaciers remain on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees,
and they are melting fast. This is one of the conclusions of a recent
Greenpeace report which blames global warming for the disappearance of 85%
of glacier surface in the region in the last century, with a 50% loss of
mass in the last 20 years. Date: September 30, 2004 Source: Greenpeace
