Wildtalk Spain, an email newsletter from www.wild-spain.com

the environment. When Paul Read bought a farm in the mountains near
Almuñecar he found that the road to Water Wisdom can be tortuous, and
sometimes personal...

. Cantabria bear sightings -
The small population of brown bears in the eastern Cantabrian mountains,
between the provinces of Cantabria, León, Palencia and Asturias, appears to
be increasing slightly. Guillermo Palomero of the Brown Bear Foundation said
there are now 25 to 30 bears in the region, of which 7 were born between
2004 and 2003. Their range also seems to be expanding with more sightings in
Cantabria province. However, these bears remain isolated from the roughly 80
individuals in the so-called "western" population, between Asturias, León
and Galicia. Date: April 14, 2005 Source: El Mundo
. No more captive-bred lynx cubs for now -
Contrary to previous predictions, no further cubs are expected this season
in the Doñana captive breeding programme for Iberian lynx. The three cubs
born two weeks ago are said to be in good health. Date: April 14, 2005

. Brown bear reintroductions in the Pyrenees -
French authorities have announced their intention to release 5 more brown
bears in the Pyrenees during 2005. There are currently 15 bears in the
Pyrenees, on both sides of the border, mostly recent introductions from
Slovenia which have acclimatised well. The aim is to double this population
within 2 or 3 years. Date: April 08, 2005 Source: Depana
. Butterflies and birds of Aranjuez -
Free guided trips around El Regajal reserve, near Aranjuez, to the south of
Madrid province, will take place on Sunday mornings during April and May.
The area, which includes the Mar de Ontígola wetlands and surrounding gypsum
hills, is famous for its birdlife and its butterflies. The excursions are
organised by the Natural History museum and the Fundación Aranjuez Natural.
