------- News Briefs

. Imperial Eagles return to Cádiz -
A pair of Spanish Imperial Eagles is now nesting in a eucalypt plantation in
the Andalusian province of Cádiz, say researchers from the government-backed
agency CSIC. This globally endangered species - there are 210 pairs left in
the world - has been absent from Cádiz for 50 years. This is a landmark
event in a reintroduction project based in La Janda, Cádiz, which started in
2002. If the pair manages to raise young it would be "... the start of a new
population in an area of great potential (...) specially important for the
fragile neighbouring population in Doñana" said project coordinator Miguel
Ferrer. Elsewhere in Spain Imperial Eagles are found in Extremadura,
Castilla León, Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid. Date: March 13, 2006 Source:

. Map of Doñana's problems -
WWF has prepared a detailed report on environmental issues to be resolved in
the Doñana area, both inside and outside the national park. The full report,
in Spanish, may be found on WWF's website, (www.wwf.es) or follow link for
map of the region pinpointing specific environmental threats. Date: March

. British mountaineers die of hypothermia in Sierra Nevada -
Three British mountaineers were found dead last Sunday by police rescue
services in Collado de Mulhacén, in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Granada.
The mountaineers apparently died of hypothermia after they'd sought shelter
by digging themselves into a snow hole in an area between Siete Lagunas and
Collado de Trevélez. The group members were apparently inappropriately
dressed for the freezing blizzard conditions over the week-end. Date: March
